Government Response Threats Hollywood

JAKARTA - The threat of importing the film and the Motion Pictures Association (MPA) which will no longer distribute foreign films in the Indonesian government finally responded. Ministry of Finance promised to finish the polemical application of customs duties on imported film distribution rights.

Acting (Acting) Head of fiscal policy the Ministry of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro said, the discussion of this issue is not only done in the internal government, but also involves the film industry entrepreneurs, especially the importers of foreign films. We're looking for a way out now," Bambang said when contacted in Jakarta.

As reported, the MPA decided not to circulate a Hollywood movie in Indonesia. The move was taken in response to taxation policies, especially import duties on distribution rights, the government that came into effect in January 2011.


As a result of this MPA step, the cinemas in Indonesia will no longer show films imported from Hollywood that have been purchased and ready to run. Bambang can not promise these new rules will be revised even revoked because the response is quite keras.Pemerintah is looking for issues related to enforcement of import duty on imported film distribution rights.

"We'll wait weeks depan.Ditjen decision of Customs, Directorate General of Taxation will finish," said the professor of the Faculty of Economics of this UI.
